UNDERSTANDING HOW GENOMES REGULATE COMPLEX BIOLOGICAL PROCESSES
The genome is the term given to the biological information carried by an organism, usually as the sequences of nucleotides in DNA. This information guides the development and functioning of organisms. In this lecture, I will show how genetics can be used to discover how the genome regulates complex processes, such as the development of an embryo from a single cell.
CELL DIVISION AND ITS RELATIONSHIP TO CANCER
For such a fundamentally important process, it is surprising that the mechanism by which a cell divides remains poorly understood. In addition, there is a poorly understood correlation between cell division failure and the development of certain cancers. In this talk I will discuss recent studies concerning both the mechanism of cell division and the consequences of cell division failure in relation to cancer.
