報告人簡介:

Dr. Bing Zhang received his Ph.D. in molecular genetics from the Shanghai Institute of Plant Physiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. His postdoctoral research at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and Oak Ridge National Laboratory focused on bioinformatics and functional genomics. In 2006, he joined the Department of Biomedical Informatics as a faculty at joined the Department of Biomedical Informatics in June 2006.  Vanderbilt University Medicine School.

Dr. Zhang's current research interests include systems biology and its application on human cancer studies, gene expression and regulation, and knowledge-guided omics data analysis and interpretation.

Abstract:

Proteogenomics is an emerging research area at the interface between proteomics and genomics. Through integrative genomic and proteomic studies, it is now possible to address questions that cannot be effectively answered using a single omics approach. Recently, the Vanderbilt Proteomics Characterization Center has completed a shotgun proteomics analysis of 90 colorectal tumor samples, which have been previously analyzed by various genomic technologies in The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) project. In this talk, I will discuss our recent effort on integrating genomic and proteomic data from these samples. Our preliminary results have demonstrated the added value of proteogenomics in cancer biomarker identification, molecular subtype classification, oncogenic driver prioritization, and a better understanding of gene expression regulation.
